DESIGN PROCESS 2

30x30cm   /   0.05 Unipin Fineliner   /   December 2020

I absolutely loved the diagram I illustrated for my ‘Design Process’ during my first year of University (which can be found here!), but by my third year I felt it was quite outdated and that I could do better.

With the first one, as happy as I was with it, it was quite general. The steps I included were intended as more of a ‘template’ for people to follow. You’re trying to design something and you’re stuck? Here, have a guide! I still think it functions for that process, but now that I was in my third year of University and I had more of an idea of the type of work I wanted to create, I wanted to make an updated diagram that was more relevant to me personally.

One of the pitfalls that I’ve repeatedly stumbled upon as a student was that I would get so engrossed in one idea that I’d often forget to explore other options. So I wanted to try and encapsulate this in a diagram. Both what my design process is, and what I’d like it to be. I was really happy with the outcome of the two illustrations, and I think the message I was trying to convey shines through really well, even without the title along the bottom of each illustration. Hopefully they can serve as a reminder that my days of grappling to the first idea I think of are behind me.
